I believe the most important thing Americans must do is to secure their economic well-being in an increasingly challenging, complex world. What I have written about all these years is the process of creating wealth, not for any one individual, but for the United States as a whole. Ever since I was a young correspondent witnessing the emergence of China after the country opened in 1979, I’ve believed we have to get more serious about creating wealth. I retain faith in the resiliency of the U.S. economy and the enterprise of American people. If Americans have the right strategies, we can once again create widespread wealth. You can watch the OPC Foundation in action this year–without leaving your home office
April 3, 2021
Dear everyone, one of the causes I have fought hardest for in my career has been the Overseas Press Club Foundation, which launches young foreign correspondents. We traditionally have an annual luncheon where we unveil our latest crop of winners, but this year obviously we were hit by the pandemic. Amazingly, we’ve been able to […]

According to Shira Ovide in the New York Times over the weekend, China is building an undersea cable to France, which […]
Have China and Russia Penetrated America’s Tech Giants?
March 15, 2021
If you add up the pieces, the evidence is beginning to mount that America’s tech giants have been compromised from within, as Mike McLauglin and I argued in a piece in November in the National Interest. Item No. 1 is this article in today’s New York Times. It seems that two major recent cyberattacks succeeded […]
Keeping Hope Alive–We launch the careers of 17 new foreign correspondents
March 11, 2021
I’m so gratified that the OPC Foundation has been able to keep rolling during the pandemic. We feared we might not receive any applications for our awards or that the quality would be so poor that we might have to take a year off. But 125 college students applied and a panel of judges (thanks […]
