I believe the most important thing Americans must do is to secure their economic well-being in an increasingly challenging, complex world. What I have written about all these years is the process of creating wealth, not for any one individual, but for the United States as a whole. Ever since I was a young correspondent witnessing the emergence of China after the country opened in 1979, I’ve believed we have to get more serious about creating wealth. I retain faith in the resiliency of the U.S. economy and the enterprise of American people. If Americans have the right strategies, we can once again create widespread wealth. Come with me on this journey.
The Crisis That U.S. Companies Face in China
February 20, 2022
The Winter Olympics were merely a snapshot of the dilemma that U.S. companies are facing in China. One very good look at the problem was buried on page B3 on a Saturday of a holiday weekend in the New York Times by Ana Swanson. It deserves wider reading so here’s the link. As I wrote […]
Some very positive news on competing against China, but there is still an 800-pound gorilla in the room

At the time, Microsoft said one of its “partners” in China had leaked the […]

Could Legislation Aimed at Helping America Compete With China Do the Exact Opposite?
January 24, 2022
If true, this is one of the most cynical power plays I have ever seen. U.S. multinationals operating in China appear to have inserted language in a bill aimed at helping America compete with China by including a provision that might do the exact opposite. Stripping out Section 301 would remove one of the U.S. […]
The Media’s Coverage of Microsoft’s Latest Power Grab
January 19, 2022
When I heard that Microsoft was going to lay out $70 billion in cash (where the hell did they get all that PURE CASH?) to buy the gaming company, Activision Blizzard, I thought I would hear screams of outrage that one of America’s top five techno-gorillas was expanding into yet another horizontal space. This is […]
