Meta Takes Down a Chinese Propaganda Effort–but doesn’t explain why it took so long

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, is making a big deal about taking down a Chinese propaganda drive on social media, seen here. But it doesn’t explain why it took so long to discover such a massive disinformation effort or why its platforms could be so easily manipulated. This reminds me of Microsoft’s talking about bad Chinese actors getting into its cloud-based email systems–the company doesn’t even seek to explain how it happened. Is this a new pattern? Big Tech announces they are heroes for spotting Chinese penetrations–but not talking about why they should never have happened in the first place. And probably not taking steps to truly secure their systems.
