A Study on Confucius Institutes Concurs They Are a Problem

I’ve just been made aware of this research by the National Association of Scholars into the existence of roughly 100 Confucius Institutes at American universities. There are hundreds more at the high school level.

Their research conclusions align with the Chinese Influence, American Interests report by Orville Schell and the Hoover Institute at Stanford University. And they align with my book, The New Art of War: China’s Deep Strategy Inside the United States,” seen here.

The consensus seems to be that the Hanban, a unit of China’s Department of Education, is engaged in a major propaganda effort to influence American students. The agreements that the Hanban cuts with American universities are secret. They specific that the institutes must be run in accordance with Chinese law, which specifies that no one can talk about sensitive subjects such as Tibet, Taiwan or Xinjiang.

Clearly, one of the things we Americans must do to re-establish balance in the U.S.-Chinese relationship is to invest more American dollars in expanding the number of young Americans who speak Chinese and who have a realistic understanding of the policies today of President Xi Jiping. And the Confucius Institutes should be shut down.
