Kurt Campbell is one of the smartest, most experienced U.S. officlals in understanding the complexities of the U.S.-China relationship. His well-balanced essay allows for the possibility that President Trump is managing the relationship well. But it also holds out the possibility, which is far greater in my mind, that Trump does not understand that Xi Jinping’s goal is to undermine and destroy Western capitalism.
