But that is just a piece of the broader pattern, as this report from Gateway House in Mumbai has concluded. China is, for example, trying to manipulate the U.N. agency in charge of international telecommunications standards into adopting Huawei’s 5G wireless communications standards, which would give the company a dominant position around the world.
I can hear the Chinese propaganda meisters saying they are only seeking to replicate what the Americans already have achieved. But the difference is that the United States helped set up the UN system to support an international system of rules and values. That’s not what China is doing. It is attempting to use the U.N. system to benefit its own interests.
