I very much regret that the time has come to be asking this question. For many years, we assumed that China would not be a direct challenge militarily or in cyberspace. But the Chinese have emerged in that light and seem poised to continue on the path of pushing the boundaries of their power–at our expense. Hence I agree with the New York Times that we have to ask our leading technology companies–what are you doing in China? Are you selling commercially available technology or are you helping the Chinese build unique systems that could prove useful to them in a military or cyber sense?
