As per this article in today’s NY Times https://www.nytimes.com/2025/06/17/technology/tiktok-ban-extension-trump.html?searchResultPosition=1, President Trump has granted another 90-day extension to TikTok, which reaches 170 million Americans. It is the third time he has done that.
TikTok is part of China’s campaign to undermine Americans’ very thought process through cognitive warfare. Congress passed a bill demanding that it either be sold to a non-Chinese owner or simply shut down. President Biden signed it into law and the Supreme Court upheld the actions in a 9-0 vote.
The Chinese will simply not sell TikTok. It is a very advanced algorithm because it is able to learn so much about its users, even biometric data. The Chinese government does not want it to fall into foreign hands. The only alternative is to shut it down. “This is just a wild situation–the president has essentially nullified a law because he doesn’t like it,” a former adviser to the Justice Department is quoted as saying.
