This excellent article in the New York Times explains how TikTok’s algorithms are controlled by Chinese engineers in China. To disentangle TikTok from any Chinese involvement would require years of work and cause massive disruption to current TikTok users. So watch very carefully as Microsoft pursues an “acqusition.” What really might it be buying?
